Let’s Go has been involved with golf for over 20 years, which has allowed us to witness the rapid development of golf within Slovenia during that time. Just twenty years ago, Slovenia had only three golf courses and 500 golfers. Now, the country is home to thirteen golf courses and thousands of golfers. In 1937, King Alexander erected the first golf course in Slovenia (as well as the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia) in 1937 in Bled, where the king’s summer residence was located. During World War II, the course was destroyed and then transformed into a military polygon. Later. it was transformed once again into a pig farm. In the beginning of the 1970s, renowned golf architect John Haradin restored the golf course, after which it earned its title as the cradle of modern golf here in Slovenia. As such, the course has hosted several Professional European tournaments and European Championships.
Just as the landscape of Slovenia is extremely diverse, so are its golf courses. Skilfully placed within its natural environment, each course has its own unique character that reflects specific features from its surroundings. Constructed according to the 'Committed to Green' standard, each course uses chemicals with great caution and consideration of the environment. Water is also used carefully, and personnel strive their hardest to preserve and protect the animal and plant habitats within these areas. While you can certainly visit any of these courses on your own, we have prepared a selection of the most beautiful 18-hole courses, combined with first class accommodation and various gourmet restaurants. To begin, you will experience the youngest golf course in our selection, located on the slightly rippling, hilly, karst landscape in Struga Otočec. The serene, sweeping landscape and expansive, beautifully manicured greens are truly unforgettable. This course is warm and friendly, just like the area’s residents. We will then continue on to the Mokrice golf course. This course surrounds a massive, fortified baroque mansion that lies on the main hill, and is partly situated on the castle’s ancient English park. With a narrow clearing encircling the holes and small greens, this course seems rather challenging at times—but do not be deceived. This course is the final work of architect John Haradin, who put all of his experience and knowledge into the design of this beautiful golf course. All you need at Mokrice is accuracy and you will achieve excellent scores without difficulty. From the hilly landscape at Mokrice, we will proceed to the eastern plains of Slovenia. Here, we will play a third round at the golf course in Moravske Toplice, located in the middle of the Pannonian Plain. Surrounded by endless fields, this course holds a beautiful view of the horizon. Like the spacious landscape by which it lies, this course encompasses wide clearings that comfortably separate each hole. Before we return to the hills, we will stop in the middle of the water. The Ptuj golf course lies in the middle of a series of wetlands within the immediate vicinity of the town of Ptuj, which is most memorable for its multitude of water barriers. The clearings that encircle each hole are relatively long and narrow, while the greens are large, fast and diverse. If you needed accuracy for a good sum in Mokrice, you will need precision and long strokes here in Ptuj. The individuals behind the Ptuj golf course are extremely attentive to the harmony between the course and nature. Much of the area is well secured and protected, due to the endangered wetland fauna and flora that inhabit the wetland. We will spend our second to last day at the Royal golf course in Bled. Located in the midst of the Alps, this course will increasingly impress you with each hole. Haradin paid fine attention to the details of the landscape and the beautiful panorama of the towering Alps that set the background when he constructed this masterpiece. Although the clearings are wide and the greens are relatively small, you must skilfully apply all of your knowledge to achieve good results on this course. The greens can quickly mislead you, so pay special attention in order to prevent an unpleasantly surprising sum. If you are careful, this course will be very rewarding. If you are not, you will run into trouble that will be difficult to evade. After all, this is what well-constructed golf courses are all about! Our golf tour will conclude at the Volčji Potok Arboretum golf course, which is located in the middle of the forest. Both the gently rippling landscape and deep forest that encompasses the course establish a truly magical atmosphere. The clearings that encircle the holes of this course are long, narrow, and twisted, while the greens are sufficiently large and fast, which will require your careful effort for a good sum. Seven days and six breathtaking golf courses, each one delightfully different from the next. The remarkable distinction of these idyllic courses will allow each one to carve a special place into your heart that will leave you yearning to play on them again. |
